History

Hayward Medal Background

The Hayward Medal was inaugurated in 1994/95 and is awarded annually to recognise the best player in the Bentley Cricket Club's ‘A' Grade Team. The medal is donated by Club Members, Brian & Andrew 'Ace' Hayward.

The Hayward brothers contribution to our club is quite unique for siblings.  They are both past Presidents of the Club, and both have occupied most admin positions within the club, as well as Club Coach, and 1st XI Grade Captain.

As A grade champion cricketers both, the club is honoured to have the Hayward brothers associated with our Club Champion award.

The winner of the Hayward Medal is the player who has accrued the most votes over the period of a season. Votes are allocated by the umpires in each ‘A' Grade match, on a 3,2,1 basis to players of both sides. The West Australian Suburban Turf Club Association collates the votes during the season, and publishes the results at the end of the season.

Club inception

The Bentley Cricket Club was founded in 1953 and is the oldest club participating in the Western Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association (WASTCA). The first formal meeting of the Bentley Park Cricket Club took place on 7th September 1953 with local shopkeeper J.McKinnon made the clubs first President. A fortnight later, at a meeting held in Mr McKinnon's shop, it was moved that the fledgling club's colours be navy blue. The 'Bentley Blues' had been created!

Club progress

From small beginnings, the Bentley Cricket Club has gradually progressed to a large club presently fielding 4 senior teams in the WASTCA. The club's growth has been equally matched by its on field success, importantly winning the first grade premiership in 2019/20. The club believes it has the right structures in place to push for further honours this season.

Our members are drawn from all walks of life and from a diverse number of industries. Our ability to be able to recruit quality new players to the club on an annual basis further enhances our reputation as one of the pre-eminent clubs in the association. The strength of the Bentley Cricket Club comes from the level of commitment shown by the players and the dedication of the committee and supporters. This ongoing commitment has seen the club rank as one of the best metropolitan cricket clubs.

Premierships

The club is proud to have experienced much on field success across the span of our lifetime, and across all WASTCA grades.
