The Hayward Medal was inaugurated in 1994/95 and is awarded annually to recognise the best player in the Bentley Cricket Club's ‘A' Grade Team. The medal is donated by Club Life Members Brian & Andrew Hayward, who are both past Presidents of the Club and both have occupied most positions within the club including Club Coach and A Grade Captain.
Brian Hayward commenced his career with the Bentley CC in the 1971/72 season. Brian played 307 games with the club, he scored 6128 runs took 63 wickets and completed 200 catches and 13 stumpings. Brian played in 4 Premierships during his career at Bentley. Brian was named as the Captain of the Bentley Cricket Club's Team of the Half Century in 2003.
Andrew (Ace) Hayward commenced his career at the Bentley CC in the 1974/75 season. Ace played 234 games with the club, he scored 4920 runs took 379 wickets and has taken 122 catches and 5 stumpings. Ace played in 2 Premierships with the Bentley Cricket Club. Ace was awarded a place in the Club's team of the Half Century in 2003.
The winner of the Hayward Medal is the player who has accrued the most votes over the period of a season. Votes are allocated by the umpires in each ‘A' Grade match, on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis to players of both sides. The West Australian Suburban Turf Club Association collates the votes during the season, and publishes the results at the end of the season.
